My general research interests lie in the world of biomedical sciences, specifically in health and disease. I am interested in studying disease-causing microbes as well as the host-side responses. My experiences have generated many questions regarding the microbes that cause diseases, and the genomic variations between closely related and different species. Who causes the disease, how, and where do they come from? Why and how do those additional or absent genes make microbes more or less virulent? Is virulence determined by a single genetic locus or can we find multi-factorial causes of pathogenicity? Does immune response come from a single infectious agent or is there an interplay with the commensal flora?
Ultimately, my goal is to characterize human infectious diseases, which might serve as an indicator for early detection and eradication of diseases. I believe that this can be achieved by combining the knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology, with bioinformatics and other technologies available nowadays, to create a model of the complex biological system. | |
